Our Review

Released in 1966, Aftermath found the Stones at a peak of pop-artiness (The original back sleeve credits Mick Jagger with "lighting." ) Their first full album of originals, Aftermath put the group's quest for new sounds, generally overseen by Brian Jones, front and center. "Paint It Black," with its storming raga feel, was their most adventurous single to date, while "Under My Thumb" benefited from marimba. Other tracks similarly pushed hard rock into new areas, such the thick bass tones of "Think" and "It's Not Easy". The wistful "I Am Waiting" broke new ground as the most adult, moving ballad they'd yet offered. (Decades later it would be used in Wes Anderson's film Rushmore.) And the blues were still at this music's heart, as the 11-minute "Going Home" testified. Finally, listen for a jokey quote from "Satisfaction" near the beginning of "Flight 505."

Customer Reviews

Brian Jones was perfect (5 stars) I'm a fan of all GOOD music from every era. I will put Brian Jones creativity and musicianship up against any pop/rock musician from the last 40 years. Listen to his citar on "Paint It Black" and vibes on "Under My Thumb". Mick and Keith get the credits and royalties, but Jones laid the blueprint for the Stones immortality. He's still underated to this day. "It's Not Easy!" (5 stars) .."I Have To Turn My Head Until My Darkness Goes!"..Ahh; the Pleasures and Pains of Fame! (By this time; the U.K. and U.S. versions of Rolling Stones LP's differed greatly; the "Hit Singles" usually determining the track selection and order!) "Paint It Black" and "Under My Thumb" were Rocking, but with an exotic & dangerous edge! (They would both set the tone for future songs about: Obsessions, Pos Rock On! (5 stars) This Album Is Great for beats and stuff. Personally best song is definetly.....Pain it, black! It just has a facsinating beat... I think

Biography

Formed: April, 1962 in London, England Genre: Rock Years Active: '60s, '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s By the time the Rolling Stones began calling themselves the World's Greatest Rock & Roll Band in the late '60s, they had already staked out an impressive claim on the title. As the self-consciously dangerous alternative to the bouncy Merseybeat of the Beatles in the British Invasion, the Stones had pioneered the gritty, hard-driving blues-based rock & roll that came to define hard rock. With his preening machismo and latent maliciousness, Mick Jagger became the prototypical rock frontman,...
